General Information

Summary Paragraph

Marriage Mentoring: 12 Conversations offers practical support to couples as they face new stages in married life. Although mentors and mentored couples do not have to be a full generation apart, this program encourages older and younger couples to communicate and learn from one another. Instead of a "marriage counseling" type of mentoring, this program simply uses a successful, healthy couple as a role model. They share their experience through their stories. These stories are a great resource of encouragement and wisdom about marriage. Couples meet monthly for a year as they develop a friendship over guided conversations about marriage. Their stories surface marriage strengths, joys, memories, differences, challenges, and problem solving skills.

Curriculum Purpose

Marriage mentoring offers personal and practical support to couples dealing with the adjustments, dilemmas, and challenges that typically confront them in the early years of marriage. The purpose of marriage mentoring is threefold: to encourage couple friendships that will provide support to the couple in their marriage; to help couples talk about the normal and predictable challenges of marriage; and to affirm the strengths of couples as they grow in their marriage relationship.
